Medicinal leeches are protected by the Washington Convention on the Protection of Endangered Species because they are almost extinct in large parts of their former habitat, including Germany. We keep and breed leeches in conditions that are as close as possible to their natural habitat. For most of their lives we keep them in near-natural ponds with a balanced biological equilibrium, because only leeches that feel good will reach their optimum treatment potential.

We get our energy from renewable sources because we are committed to protecting the environment:

Electricity: Our supplier guarantees that our electricity comes from 100% renewable energy sources, without nuclear power and coal.

Gas: Our supplier provides us with an environmentally friendly gas product. In contrast to conventional natural gas, it contains a proportion of biogas, and this proportion is constantly increasing. There are technical reasons for the steady increase, as raw biogas has to be processed to natural gas quality and biogas is significantly more expensive than natural gas. The admixture rate is constantly increasing.

Biogas still releases CO2 when it is burned, but only the same amount that its starting materials previously removed from the atmosphere. This creates a closed CO2 cycle and thus has a neutral effect on the climate. Our supplier is thus also contributing to the increased demand for environmentally friendly biogas.

Although we only buy energy from providers who meet the abovementioned criteria, we change providers when competitors offer cheaper rates. This is a straightforward process, keeps suppliers competitive and ensures that our energy supply is responsible and cost-effective.
